The IBC of Madeira welcomes “Clipper Round the World”

The International Business Centre of Madeira is sponsoring the “Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race” reception in Madeira, thus joining other official sponsors and Marina Quinta do Lorde, which is the entity responsible for the local organization and the first port of call after the departure from Southampton, last 31st of July.

The Clipper Round the World is the world’s longest oceanic race. The fleet competing in the Clipper 11-12 Race will make its first stop in Madeira between the 8th and 12th of August 2011.

The partnership with Quinta do Lorde Marina is a result of the acknowledgment that the maritime and international framework of this event provides an interesting opportunity to divulge the IBC of Madeira and its various sectors of activity, namely those related to the International Shipping Register of Madeira – MAR and the advantages presented for the registration and management of yachts.

During this stop of the Regatta in Madeira, several social events will take place, organized by Marina Quinta do Lorde, in which S.D.M. will have the chance to meet with the International Organization of the Race to present the advantages of MAR and specifically those related to the registration of yachts under the Portuguese flag.

The International Shipping Register of Madeira

The International Shipping Register of Madeira – MAR is Portugal’s second and international shipping register, created to reduce the country’s “flagging out” process as well as to attract new shipowners and vessels.

MAR, as a Portuguese register, is among the international registers of the highest quality, having guaranteed adequate measures to ensure an efficient surveillance of all vessels registered. All international conventions ratified by Portugal are fully applicable to and respected by MAR. As a result, MAR has never been considered as a “flag of convenience” and is included in the White List of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding.

With the exception of fishing vessels, MAR accepts the registration of all types of commercial vessels, including oil rig platforms, as well as commercial and pleasure yachts.

Madeira’s Register also offers a very competitive tax regime, applicable to both vessels and shipping companies licensed within the legal framework of the International Business Centre of Madeira.

Yacht Registration & Yacht Owning Companies

Both commercial and pleasure yachts may be registered in Madeira’s International Shipping Register – MAR.

Being an E.U. Register, MAR allows full access to European waters without any type of restrictions to both commercial and private yachts, which will also benefit from MAR’s international status as a high quality Register and from the tax advantages availed within the International Business Centre of Madeira.

All yachts registered in MAR will fly the Portuguese flag and will benefit from the services of the Private Commercial Register and Notary of Madeira’s IBC.
